The Chair explained to the Committee why there had been two additional meetings scheduled and thanked them for attending.
The Chair asked the Senior Licensing Officer to update the Committee on a recent case in which the penalty points scheme was used and a fixed penalty notice issued. A driver was witnessed by an officer smoking in his car and not having the licence plate fixed correctly. Subsequently, the driver was issued four points for not displaying his plates correctly and a further three points for smoking in his vehicle along with a fixed penalty notice which has since been paid. It was also confirmed that the incident had been reported in the local media. This was a good example of the points system working effectively. The Chair confirmed that the driver had been given guidance on how to rectify the situation in the future.
