Purpose:

To obtain member approval to proceed with the further development of the Council's approach to private sector housing including the provision of financial assistance for empty homes, extensions to the landlord accreditation scheme and potential development of a Social Lettings Agency for Tamworth.

Decisions:

The Report of the Portfolio Holder for Quality of Life seeking to approve changes in the way Tamworth Borough Council engages with and intervenes in the private sector to provide a wider choice of suitable housing options for those wishing to reside in the Tamworth area was considered.

 

RESOLVED:

 

That:

The extension of the landlord accreditation scheme to include managing agents be approved, and;

The development of the advice and assistance service provided to empty home owners to include the provision of lists of approved landlords, managing agents and quality tradesmen be approved, and;

In principle the development of a social lettings agency to enable the Council to increase access to private sector accommodation be approved and that a further report be submitted during 2012/2013 for final approval for the development of a social lettings agency.
